Oracle (6:22-cv-01254) and Salesforce (6:22-cv-01255) are the most recent defendants in an inventor-controlled campaign, the latest plaintiffs of which—a “Vilox Technologies, LLC” and a “Vilox, LLC”—appear to have some basic questions to answer. Both complaints identify the two putative plaintiffs as Texas LLCs, but it is unclear whether they actually exist and, if so, how they share rights to the asserted patents, which generally relate to searching a database through “descriptors” that correspond to a “data category”. Targeted in the new Western District of Texas complaints, respectively, are “Accused Instrumentalities . . . embodied in Oracle Database products and Oracle ATG Platform products” and in Salesforce's Lightning, Report Builder, Search, and Visualforce products, those instrumentalities described as generally related “to retrieval, search, generation of results, and truncation of displayed characters performed within” those products.
