S3G Cites Prior Markman Ruling in First 2023 Complaints of Mobile App Campaign
For more than seven years, S3G Technology LLC has been suing companies in either the Eastern or Western District of Texas over the provision of mobile apps for retail, asset tracking, digital key operation, etc. The latest defendants are Best Buy (2:23-cv-00005), Staples (6:23-cv-00004), and The Buckle (4:23-cv-00011) over the provision of their respective apps, S3G identifying overlapping sets of up to three patents-in-suit, from a total of eight now asserted across the more than 30 complaints filed in this campaign. Those patents generally relate to communications between a client and a server, with pleading over the years increasingly focused on the purported advantages of the “unique and very specific type of computer system structure involving three entities: a service provider machine [. . .], a terminal machine[,] and an update server machine” described.
