IoT Services Provider Adds Reolink and Retailers to Security Camera Campaign

March 4, 2023

In late January, Taiwan-based ThroughTEK Co., Ltd., a provider of cloud-based Internet of Things (IoT) services, launched its first litigation, filing a single Eastern District of Texas complaint targeting cloud video surveillance systems from Amcrest Technologies and sold by codefendants Amazon, eBay, Home Depot, Micro Center, Target, and Walmart (2:23-cv-00035). The company has now filed a second, similarly configured complaint, this time in Delaware (1:23-cv-00218): ThroughTEK again alleges infringement through the provision of camera systems and related apps and services, this time those from Reolink Innovation, which it has again sued alongside retailers of the accused products—largely the same group as before, though with Lowe’s instead of eBay. A single patent, generally related to “identify[ing] a networked device for establishing a point-to point (P2P) connection”, is asserted in both complaints.
