VideoLabs Sues Apple, Receives Patents from Exiting Defendants

March 26, 2023

VideoLabs, Inc. and its subsidiary VL Collective IP, LLC have filed suit against Apple (3:23-cv-01307) in the Northern District of California. The plaintiffs accuse Apple of infringing two patents—one new to this litigation campaign, active since May 2021, and broadly directed to synchronizing streams involving two media files (e.g., a video and an audio file); and the other already asserted against Amazon, Lions Gate Entertainment (Starz Entertainment), and Netflix and generally pertaining to a touchscreen device with a certain physical assembly. Litigation in this campaign remains active as to ASUSTek, Dell, HP, Meta Platforms (Facebook, Giphy, Instagram, WhatsApp), Netflix, and Starz, while the disputes between VideoLabs and Acer, Amazon, Lenovo (Motorola Mobility), and Micro-Star International have ended, for two of them right around the time that additional patent assets were moved from those defendants to VideoLabs.
