University plaintiffs The Research Foundation for The State University of New York (RF SUNY), Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), and University of Connecticut (UConn) have filed their first litigation together, over eight patents broadly directed to heart monitoring and activity analyzing technologies. In the new Eastern District of Texas complaint, Samsung (2:23-cv-00141) is targeted over the provision of “physiological monitoring devices”, including the Samsung Galaxy-series smartwatches. At issue is the Samsung Health Monitor app, which supports heart tracking capabilities such as atrial fibrillation analysis and electrocardiogram recording.
