Mel NavIP Snags Three More Automakers with Former MELCO Patents

April 18, 2023

Mel NavIP LLC has filed separate Eastern District of Texas complaints against GM (2:23-cv-00175) and Hyundai and Kia (2:23-cv-00176), targeting the provision of automobiles with infotainment systems that include certain speech recognition and navigation features. Six former Mitsubishi Electric (MELCO) patents are asserted in overlapping sets, three generally related to speech processing; three, to vehicle navigation. The new cases come as District Judge Rodney Gilstrap has extended the stay imposed in a case that Mel NavIP filed last May against Toyota, to facilitate the parties’ efforts to finalize a resolution of their dispute.
