Related corporate entities Optis Wireless Technology, LLC and PanOptis Patent Management, LLC have together filed a new complaint against Huawei (2:17-cv-00123) asserting five patents (6,604,216; 7,769,238; 7,940,851; 8,208,569; 8,385,284), four of which (the ‘216, ‘851, ‘569, and ‘284 patents) the plaintiffs have alleged are essential to the 3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE) standard. The products at issue are various Huawei mobile phones and tablets, accused of infringement of the four allegedly standard essential patents for their LTE compatibility and of the ‘238 patent for the devices’ ability to “decode picture and audio data”. While USPTO records confirm that “PanOptis” (defined in the complaint as both plaintiffs collectively) own all five patents-in-suit, as well as any family members for four of them, most of the 13 other patents related to the ‘238 patent appear to be owned by another NPE.
