GenghisComm Turns to Continental Automotive

January 19, 2024

In a new Western District of Texas complaint, GenghisComm Holdings, LLC has accused Continental Automotive Systems (6:24-cv-00024) of infringing eight wireless communications patents. Targeted is the provision of automotive telematics control units (TCUs) and Network Access Devices (NADs) that allegedly offer LTE and 5G network connectivity (including, for example, to enable in-car Wi-Fi hotspots) and “that adhere to the LTE and 5G standards”. The plaintiff pleads, however, that it “has no FRAND obligations because it did not participate in standard setting” and that “[a] separate, third-party standard setting body—with no participation or other involvement by GenghisComm—chose to declare as essential to the standard setting body’s standards the technology already invented, taught, and patented by GenghisComm through its prior patent filings”.
