Ironworks Asserts Audio Identification Patents from MobileMedia Ideas Portfolio for the First Time

Newly formed Ironworks Patents LLC has opened up a second litigation campaign with patents from the portfolio that it recently acquired from MobileMedia Ideas LLC. The NPE has asserted four former Sony patents (7,251,475; 7,991,431; 8,190,202; 8,437,800) against SoundHound’s Android and iOS applications and server-side software. The patents generally relate to using captured snippets of audio information (e.g. a song) to identify and deliver information about it (e.g. artist or title). None of the patents has been previously asserted in litigation, but other members of the MobileMedia portfolio, now owned by Ironworks, have been litigated since 2010.
