Q2 in Review: A Look at Funded Patent Campaigns Launched During the Quarter
Litigation finance remains a hot topic, with a Texas jury returning an $847M damages award in the funded phase of General Access Solutions, Ltd.’s campaign last month and the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Courts, Intellectual Property, and the Internet having held a hearing in June examining recent developments with respect to IP litigation financed by third-party investors. (The draft bill on disclosure of litigation funding that Representative Darrell Issa (R-Ca.) had said would be released approximately ten days after that hearing has yet to make an appearance.) Meanwhile, a close review of public records reveals that several of the new US patent litigation campaigns begun during Q2 can be tied to prominent third-party litigation funders.
