Inventor-Controlled Weple IP Sues Meta

August 24, 2024

Weple IP Holdings LLC has filed what appears to be its first litigation, suing Meta Platforms (2:24-cv-01316) in the Western District of Washington over the provision of the Facebook and Instagram social media platforms, as well as of Messenger. Two patents are asserted, one characterized as generally directed to managing “video messages”, the other, to “media messages”. Attached claim charts respectively focus on “coordinating video messages” on Facebook and Instagram and “advertising media messages that are delivered to mobile applications across [Meta’s] platforms”. The patents’ sole named inventor, Mary Anne Fletcher, also apparently “a professional fashion model” and “healthy living connoisseur”, has been disclosed as the sole owner of Weple IP’s parent entity.
