New Synthetic Image Training Litigation Filed Against Backdrop of Complicated Ties

September 14, 2025

Artificial Intelligence Industry Association, Inc. (AIIA) has filed seven cases over the past couple of weeks, suing Elementary Robotics (2:25-cv-08297), Geisel Software (1:25-cv-07387), MVision AI (8:25-cv-02329), Osaro (3:25-cv-07170), Parallel Domain (3:25-cv-07658), Skylum Software (1:25-cv-07522), and Topaz Labs (8:25-cv-02362) in various district courts. AIIA asserts overlapping subsets of patents, generally related to image enhancement and/or synthetic image generation for machine learning, targeting the provision of a variety of products. Fry Law Corporation has signed and filed required certificates of interested parties in connection with several of these lawsuits that seem to contradict “Patent Purchase Agreements” filed publicly with the USPTO that cover the patents now in suit.
