Second Automaker Sued in Campaign over Former Visteon Patents

February 20, 2019

Michigan Motor Technologies LLC (MMT) has filed a second complaint asserting roughly half of the 40 plus former Visteon patents that the entity received from Mobile Automotive Technologies LLC (MAT) in August 2017. The new defendant is Volkswagen (2:19-cv-10485), and the patents generally relate to various aspects of motor mechanics (e.g., systems for throttle control, fuel vapor evaporation, liquid level monitoring, fuel injection, etc.). Volkswagen is accused of infringement through the manufacture and sale of shifting sets of vehicles across the various patents-in-suit. Last September, MMT’s first case, filed one year earlier against Hyundai, was dismissed with prejudice, nearly concurrently with the termination of inter partes reviews of ten patents in suit there in light of a settlement between the parties.
