Comcast—together with its customer The Teaching Company—has filed a complaint asking the District of Colorado for declaratory judgments of noninfringement of four patents, owned by DISH Technologies and exclusively licensed to Sling TV (1:21-cv-00740), the patents generally related to multi-bitrate content streaming. The DJ plaintiffs contend that as part of a campaign to assert “a portfolio of outdated patents that they themselves did not invent but have acquired”, DISH and Sling have accused The Teaching Company’s “The Great Courses” streaming services of infringement. As “the provider of a suite of technology and services that helps content providers such as TTC manage and publish video across platforms through Comcast’s Cloud Video Platform, formerly known as ‘mpx’ or thePlatform”, Comcast has stepped in to defend its customer.
