Second West Texas Jury Sides with SVV Technology, Requesting Access to the “Light Guide Plate” Rather Than to “More Regular Coke”

In the litigation campaign of SVV Technology Innovations, Inc. (d/b/a Lucent Optics), a second West Texas jury has returned a 2024 verdict in favor of the plaintiff, awarding more than $22.4M against ASUSTek for the infringement of six claims from four patents. In June, the other jury awarded SVV Technology $10.3M for Acer’s infringement of five claims from four different patents. Both juries found willfulness. District Judge Alan D. Albright has just entered judgment against Acer, in a sealed order, based on that first verdict, with each defendant facing two additional cases, in which more SVV Technology patents appear headed to trial.

Acer Sued over LED-Backlit LCD Display Panels

Inventor-controlled SVV Technology Innovations, Inc. (d/b/a Lucent Optics) has continued its litigation pattern in June with three separate suits against Acer (6:22-cv-00639; 6:22-cv-00640; 6:22-cv-00641) in the Western District of Texas. The 13 asserted patents generally relate to films and structures that alter light passing through them, with the defendant accused of infringement through the provision of monitors and laptops that “utilize LED-backlit LCD display panels”. Since launching its sole litigation in February 2020, SVV Technology has sued four defendants, targeting the inclusion of certain display technologies in products ranging from smartphones to TVs.

QLED Displays Targeted in New West Texas Lawsuit Against Samsung

SVV Technology Innovations (d/b/a Lucent Optics) has filed its first lawsuit, accusing Samsung (6:20-cv-00139) of infringing seven patents generally related to films and structures that alter light passing through them. The plaintiff accuses Samsung of infringement through the provision of QLED (“quantum dot LED”) TVs “and other products containing LED-illuminated LCD displays, including televisions, computer monitors, tablets, and handheld devices”.
