Next up for TurboCode LLC are AT&T (AT&T Mobility) (2:23-cv-00375) and Deutsche Telekom (T-Mobile) (2:23-cv-00376), separately sued in a pair of Eastern District of Texas complaints. The plaintiff asserts a familiar patent, generally related to processing “baseband digital signals”, targeting the sale of telecommunication handsets (including those manufactured by Alphabet (Google), Apple, LG Electronics, Motorola, and/or Samsung) that comply with 3G and/or 4G LTE standards “as disclosed in the 3^rd Generation Partnership Project (“3GPP”) Standard Specifications governing cellular wireless communications (e.g., TS 26.071-26.999)”. The last round in this campaign involved separate Western District of Texas cases against D-Link, HTC, TCL, and Unizyx (ZyXEL), two of which remain active.

TurboCode LLC has filed a second round of suits in its campaign over two former ICOMM Technologies, Inc. patents generally related to processing “baseband digital signals”. The new defendants are D-Link (1:22-cv-01160), HTC (1:22-cv-01161), TCL (1:22-cv-01163), and ZyXEL (1:22-cv-01162), each sued in the Western District of Texas. The defendants are accused of infringement through the provision of devices (e.g., adapters, routers, and smartphones) that “comply with the 3G and/or 4G/LTE standards as disclosed in the 3^rd Generation Partnership Project (“3GPP”) Standard Specifications governing cellular wireless communications”.

As RPX recently predicted, Texas NPE TurboCode LLC has initiated its inaugural campaign, filing suit against ASUSTek (4:21-cv-00294) and Huawei (HiSilicon) (4:21-cv-00295) in the Eastern District of Texas and Dell (6:21-cv-00359) and HP and HP Enterprise (HPE) (in a single suit; 6:21-cv-00360) in the Western District of Texas. The plaintiff targets—with two previously litigated patents generally related to processing “baseband digital signals”—a variety of devices (e.g., chips, laptops, routers, smartphones, service concentrators, tablets, etc.) that “comply with the 3G and/or 4G/LTE standards as disclosed in the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (“3GPP”) Standard Specifications governing cellular wireless communications”.

Beginning in 2018, and with increasing frequency since then, an individual inventor has been waging litigation campaigns asserting others’ patents, hitting a wide range of defendants and targeting a broad spectrum of products and services. Public records suggest that more litigation may be coming.
