Samsung Sued over Former Sisvel Patents

Samsung (2:22-cv-00107) is the latest defendant to be sued in the sole litigation campaign that Texas NPE Emergent Mobile LLC launched in June 2021. The plaintiff asserts three patents broadly directed to wireless communications, with Samsung accused of infringement through the provision of 5G- and LTE-compliant smartphones and tablets. At issue is the support for features such as LTE networking, Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA), LTE Proximity Based Services (ProSe), and Google’s ARCore localization technology.

Emergent Mobile Sues Second Defendant over Former Sisvel Patents

Recently formed Texas NPE Emergent Mobile LLC has added a second defendant to its sole litigation campaign, launched last month, suing Kyocera (6:21-cv-00714) in the Western District of Texas. The plaintiff asserts three patents generally related to wireless communications, with infringement allegations targeting the provision of “4G and 5G” smartphones that support LTE networking, Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA), Group Communication Service (GCS), and Google Maps’ Live View features (using its ARCore “localization technique”).

Apparent New IP Entrant Sues over Patents Picked Up from Sisvel

Emergent Mobile LLC, a recently formed Texas NPE, just sued LG Electronics (LGE) (6:21-cv-00629) over three wireless communication patents acquired from Sisvel Technology S.r.l. last month. The accused products are “4G and 5G phones and smartphones” for all three patents and such devices that support the Google Live View feature, with its ARCore “localization technique”. Texas public records indicate that the NPE assignee is managed by an executive at a real estate investment firm based in Dallas and has ties to a prominent plaintiff-side law firm in the state.
