Lightwire Quickly Expands Reading Device Campaign
Lightwire, LLC has expanded the litigation campaign begun earlier this month, suing additional defendants ASUS (3:18-cv-01159), Best Buy (2:18-cv-01510), OnePlus (4:18-cv-01163), and Sony (3:18-cv-00409) days after its first case was filed, against LG Electronics (LGE). In this campaign, the plaintiff asserts a single patent, generally related to a touchscreen electronic reading device that can exchange information with at least one other device via a “multiband station”, accusing of infringement “electronic devices used for reading”, including ASUS’s PadFone and ZenPad series of products, Best Buy’s Insignia 8” Flex Tablet, the OnePlus 5, and Sony’s Xperia Z2 and Z4 Tablets.

Lightwire Kicks Off Two New Campaigns, One over a Previously Litigated Reading Device Patent and the Other over Simulated Cigarettes
Lightwire, LLC has launched its second and third litigation campaigns. The California NPE has filed suit against LG Electronics (LGE) (3:18-cv-00370) over a single patent generally related to a touchscreen electronic reading device that can exchange information with at least one other device via a “multiband station”. The LGE complaint characterizes the accused devices (including three identified LG G Pad 10.1” tablets) as devices that “enable the user to comfortably read electronic books, store data, and communicate data with peripheral devices”. This past November, RPX noted the transfer of this reading device patent in apparent preparation for litigation; Lightwire has previously asserted multiple high-speed data transfer patents in a campaign that ended in mid-2017, and just last month received rights to another patent, this one broadly concerning a simulated cigarette meant to help smokers kick the habit. Lightwire has now asserted that patent as well, in a new case against SS Choice (3:18-cv-00419).
