RPX’s last look at notable patent assignments considered the movement of assets to Ueran Technology LLC from Huawei; to AX Wireless, LLC from SOLiD; to VideoLabs, Inc. from DCX US Agility Platform LLC, a subsidiary of DXC Technology; to Flash Uplink LLC from its publicly traded parent Quest Patent Research Corporation (QPRC); to various entities from Ascend Innovation Management, LLC entities; and to Nera Innovations Limited from multiple entities associated with Atlantic IP Services. It is time for a review of additional notable transfers recorded since then.

Redwood Technologies Files Pair of Suits Against Qualcomm

Earlier this year, Dominion Harbor Enterprises, LLC’s Redwood Technologies, LLC filed suit against Acer, NRG Energy (Vivint), and TI over patents acquired from Wi-Fi One, LLC, a subsidiary of Inception Holdings, LLC, in November 2021. The TI and Vivint cases were dismissed without prejudice, with a settlement recently noticed in the Acer suit. Now, in a pair of Western District of Texas complaints, Redwood Technologies has accused Qualcomm (6:23-cv-00696, 6:23-cv-00697) of infringing a combined 16 of those patents.

Three Dominion Campaigns Hit More Defendants
New Patent Litigation
Three plaintiffs associated with Texas monetization firm Dominion Harbor Enterprises, LLC have added defendants to their existing campaigns. Liberty Peak Ventures, LLC (LPV) has sued Fifth Third Bank (3:23-cv-00611) over the provision of various financial products related to “internal payment processing, authentication, authorization, overdraft, enrollment, and fraud detection”. Monument Peak Ventures, LLC (MPV) has also sued Kyocera (2:23-cv-00127) over the provision of a wide array of products, including multifunctional printers, smartphones, tablets, and related software products, focusing on features related to battery management, image processing, and print management. Additionally, Redwood Technologies, LLC has hit Texas Instruments (2:23-cv-00135, 2:23-cv-00136) with two suits, targeting the provision of devices compliant with the IEEE 802.11ac/ax/n networking standards, mesh networking devices that are compliant with IEEE 802.11, and devices that are compliant with the Wi-Fi Multimedia (WMM) specification.

Dominion Harbor’s Networking Campaign Hits Two More Defendants

Last month, Redwood Technologies, LLC added another round of complaints to its wireless networking campaign with two suits each against Edimax (2:22-cv-00208; 2:22-cv-00209) in the Eastern District of Texas and Lumen Technologies (6:22-cv-00627; 6:22-cv-00628) in the Western District of Texas. The Dominion Harbor Enterprises, LLC plaintiff has been litigating former Panasonic and Sony patents since February 2022, targeting networking devices that support various IEEE 802.11 networking standards and/or Wi-Fi Multimedia (WMM).

Hundreds of Seiko Epson Patents Cruise into Dominion Harbor

2021 saw former Honeywell, Panasonic, Sony, and TCL Technology Group portfolios sail into Dominion Harbor Enterprises, LLC—as well as hundreds of Seiko Epson patents, according to data recently made public by the USPTO. Meanwhile, the Texas-based monetization firm has filed a handful of new cases so far this month, all asserting former operating company patents.

USPTO Records Reflect More Operating Company Patents Sailing into Dominion Harbor

Among acquisitions earlier this year involving patents originating with Panasonic, Sony, or TCL Technology Group, Dominion Harbor Enterprises, LLC also received a portfolio from Honeywell, according to USPTO data. That string of 2021 patent transfers appears to have coincided with somewhat of a reorganization for Dominion, with public records also indicating that the firm received a capital injection at some point this year.

Another Portfolio Peels Away from Inception

USPTO assignment records recently made public have revealed the movement of more than 240 patent assets away from Wi-Fi One, LLC, a subsidiary of Inception Holdings, LLC. The original development work for the bulk of the transacted patents was conducted at either Panasonic or Sony, with the portfolio moving to Redwood Technologies, LLC, a subsidiary of a familiar patent monetization player that has undergone a bit of a reorganization in 2021.
