Notable Assignments Pop into Public View
Patent Market, Patent Watch
Assignments recently made public by the USPTO reflect, among other things, the apparent divestitures from a networking provider of roughly a quarter of its former US patent assets and from a smart projection company to a European monetization firm of what appears to be all of its US assets, as well as a double-bounce for the patent portfolio of a customer experience (CX) vendor exiting bankruptcy protection late last year and an ongoing flow of wireless communications patents to a Texas monetization firm.

Dominion’s Litigation over Former Avaya Portfolio Moves from Comcast to T-Mobile
New Patent Litigation
Last September, Arlington Technologies, LLC, a Dominion Harbor Enterprises, LLC plaintiff, filed its first litigation over a large portfolio of former Avaya patents received earlier in 2024, suing Comcast in a pair of Eastern District of Texas complaints. Those cases have ended, after a notice of settlement. Now, Arlington has filed against Deutsche Telekom (Sprint, T-Mobile) (2:25-cv-00279) in the same district. Targeted is the provision of “wireless access points” that are configured to support 802.11ax and Wi-Fi Multimedia, cellular services that support Voice over LTE (VoLTE), and cellular networks that support STIR/SHAKEN call verification.

Those records also contain transfers to a new apparent Fortress Investment Group LLC entity and to a second Texas entity formed over the past couple of months by a figure formerly much more active in the patent monetization space.

Dominion’s Redwood Technologies Files Two West Texas Complaints Against Broadcom
New Patent Litigation
Redwood Technologies, LLC, a Dominion Harbor Enterprises, LLC plaintiff, has filed a pair of Western District of Texas complaints against Broadcom (6:25-cv-00002, 6:25-cv-00003), targeting with 15 wireless communications patents a wide array of products that are compliant with various Wi-Fi standards, including 802.11n/ac/ax/be/ad/ay and/or Wi-Fi Multimedia. In both complaints, Redwood alleges that Broadcom has had notice of the asserted patents as early as communications sent in November 2021 that offered “reasonable and nondiscriminatory” license terms, detailing multiple alleged follow-ups. The new duo of cases drops as Redwood’s two suits against its next most recent defendant, NXP Semiconductors, head toward dismissal.

Dominion Harbor Builds New Portfolio Around Acquisition of 100-Plus Wireless Communications Patents
Patent Market, Patent Watch
In connection with the acquisition of a large portfolio of patent assets from Avaya earlier this year, Dominion Harbor Enterprises, LLC CEO David Pridham reportedly predicted, “We expect to have over 20,000 patents by the end of the year”, while also expressing that “[n]inety percent of [Dominion’s] deals are done without litigation”, litigating only “when we have to”. Apparently, the Texas monetization firm “had to”, filing a pair of September 2024 suits against Comcast over a subset of the former Avaya assets; meanwhile, Dominion more recently inched closer to its predicted year-end patent holdings mark, another of its Texas entities picking up roughly 100 wireless communications patents at the end of October.
