The number of new litigation campaigns tied to Texas monetization firm IPValuation Partners, LLC (also d/b/a IPVal) has dipped since one of its principals left in August 2018, but that litigation has continued. Two of the six known IPVal campaigns launched since 2022 have focused on LED lighting patents, and now, based on recently recorded patent assignments from an operating company to an IPVal-tied entity, it would seem another one is coming. Amid this concentration, the firm has also made what appears to be its foray into “e-seller” litigation.

Brightplus Ventures LLC, a plaintiff associated with Texas monetization firm IPValuation Partners, LLC (d/b/a IPVal), has launched litigation over the portfolio of LED and LCD backlighting patents received from IDEAL Industries Lighting, a subsidiary of IDEAL Industries this past March. LG Electronics (LGE) (2:22-cv-00170) was sued in late May, with TCL (2:22-cv-00194) added as a defendant afterward, both in the Eastern District of Texas. The cases follow the end of IDEAL’s own litigation, mid-appeal from a mixed decision from the International Trade Commission.

USPTO assignment records recently made public contain a transfer of more than 34 issued US patents from IDEAL Industries Lighting, a subsidiary of IDEAL Industries, to Brightplus Ventures LLC, an entity with ties to a Texas monetization firm. The portfolio largely concerns LED lighting, an area that has seen more than its fair share of patent litigation in recent years.
