First Samsung, Now Apple, in Touchscreen Gestures Campaign

In a new Southern District of California complaint, inventor-controlled Smith Interface Technologies, LLC accuses Apple (3:23-cv-01187) of infringing nine patents: five of them already in suit against Samsung and four of them new to litigation. The patents broadly concern touchscreens responsive to sequential gestures, with infringement allegations in the new complaint targeting the provision of “smartphones, portable media players, tablets, and smartwatches that run Apple iOS, iPadOS, and watchOS”, including certain models of “iPhone, iPhone SE, iPhone Pro, iPad, iPad Pro, iPad Air, iPad mini, iPod Touch, Apple Watch, and Apple Watch SE” for their inclusion of certain touchscreen gesture functionality.

Samsung One UI Targeted in New Eastern District of Texas Complaint
New Patent Litigation
In a new Eastern District of Texas complaint, Samsung (2:22-cv-00290) is accused of infringing eight patents generally related to touchscreens responsive to sequential gestures. The inventor-controlled plaintiff, Smith Interface Technologies LLC, targets the provision of smartphones and tablets that run Samsung One UI, identifying as “exemplary” such products, “the Samsung Galaxy Note Series, S Series, Z Series, A Series, M/F Series, XCover Series, J Series, Galaxy Tab S Series, and Galaxy Tab A Series”.
