Third-Party Funded SitNet Takes Aim at Meta
New Patent Litigation
Wielding a portfolio of “situational network” patents with ties to The Weather Channel, and with backing from a prominent litigation funder, SitNet LLC has opened up its inaugural campaign with a suit against Meta Platforms (f/k/a Facebook) (1:23-cv-06389) in the Southern District of New York. Meta is accused of infringing four patents through provision of its crisis communications services (i.e., Facebook Crisis Response, f/k/a Safety Check); advertisement services (i.e., Facebook Ad Platform); and its software architecture (i.e., the Tao API, which is “utilized by Meta’s Pixel and Conversion APIs… to create targeted ads”).
