MIMO Research's Wireless Communications Campaign Keeps Growing
New Patent Litigation
The litigation campaign of MIMO Research, LLC, steadily expanding since its start last month, has now ensnared LG Electronics (LGE) (6:22-cv-00668) and Texas Instruments (TI) (6:22-cv-00643), in the Western District of Texas, and Qorvo (5:22-cv-00075) and STMicro (5:22-cv-00077), in the Eastern District of Texas. The plaintiff has asserted seven wireless communications patents, in overlapping sets, across its now nine complaints, in which mobile devices and/or certain ultra-wideband (UWB) networking equipment are targeted.

MIMO Research Expands Wireless Communications Campaign
New Patent Litigation
Apple (6:22-cv-00620), Murata (5:22-cv-00074), and Samsung (5:22-cv-00073) are the latest defendants to be sued in the sole litigation campaign of MIMO Research, LLC, launched in May 2022 with suits against Intel and NXP. The plaintiff asserts five patents broadly directed to wireless communications, with the defendants accused of infringement through the provision of smartphones (Apple and Samsung) or networking devices such as ultra-wideband (UWB) modules and evaluation kits or Wi-Fi modules (Murata).

First NXP, Then Intel, for MIMO Research
New Patent Litigation
MIMO Research, LLC has filed suit against Intel (6:22-cv-00542) in the Western District of Texas over two of the four wireless communications patents asserted in the first complaint that it filed in this new campaign, against NXP Semiconductors (6:22-cv-00501) in the same district. MIMO Research accuses Intel of infringement through the provision of Wi-Fi modules supporting Wi-Fi 6 as well as field-programmable gate array (FPGA) design software and related technologies that incorporate finite impulse response (FIR) filters. NXP is targeted over the provision of certain WiFi and Bluetooth modules, microcontrollers, and ultra-wideband (UWB) transmitters and transceivers.

Second Week of October Sees Recordation of Patent Transfers to IPVal, IP Bridge, Unwired Planet, and a New Yates NPE

RPX noted among the assignment records released by the USPTO during the second week of October transfers to affiliates of IP Valuation Partners LLC (d/b/a IPVal) and IP Bridge, Inc. Also during the week, a late September assignment between two NPEs controlled by patent attorney Brian Yates was recorded, as well as a 2016 transfer to Unwired Planet International Ltd.
