Audio Pod IP Triples Down Against Amazon

Audio Pod IP, LLC has filed two more suits in the Eastern District of Virginia. The first accuses Amazon (Amazon Web Services (AWS), Audible) (1:24-cv-00914) of infringing a single patent generally related to using a “descriptor file for synchronizing a plurality of digital streams” through the provision of the Amazon CloudFront platform, content streaming services (e.g., Audible, Prime Music, and Prime Video), products (e.g., Echo Show-series devices, Fire TV products, and tablets) that use the Amazon CloudFront Delivery Network software, and related products. The second accuses Amazon (AWS) (1:24-cv-00915) of infringing four patents generally related to “rendering digital content across multiple client devices” through the provision of the Amazon Prime Music and Prime Video platforms, as well as related products. The cases follow a March 2024 complaint against Amazon from Audio Pod IP in the same district.

New Eastern District of Virginia Case Targets Audiobook Services

Audio Pod IP, LLC has filed its first case, suing Amazon (Amazon Web Services, Audible) (2:24-cv-00185) in the Eastern District of Virginia. Asserted are five patents that generally relate to the online playback of audiobooks as represented by multiple digital audio files with associated timestamps and other data, as well as related features like bookmarking and storage allocation. The new complaint targets the provision of the Audible and Audible Library audiobook services, along with other “current and legacy services” that use or have used those Audible services, including Kindle Unlimited and Prime Reading.

New Litigation Funding Operation Stands Up

A set of security interests executed last month, subsequently recorded and recently made public by the USPTO, has brought a new source of patent litigation funding into view. Six entities granted these interests to the same secured party, and three of those entities have already initiated litigation, suing defendants in the mobile communications and content distribution spaces.
