This year has so far seen monetization firm IPValuation Partners LLC (d/b/a IPVal) open up just one new campaign, via its PC Coma LLC affiliate, which this past week sued Acer, ASUSTek, HP, and Lenovo over a patent broadly concerning temperature control in a portal computer. IPVal has several other active campaigns, however, a number of them asserting patents received from Intellectual Ventures LLC (IV). Meanwhile, Endpoint IP LLC, which was launched last summer by an IPVal cofounder, looks poised to kick off multiple new litigation campaigns—perhaps also involving IV divestitures.

PC Coma LLC, an affiliate of monetization firm IP Valuation Partners LLC (d/b/a IPVal), has kicked off a second litigation campaign, filing separate suits against Fujitsu (2:19-cv-00033) and Panasonic (2:19-cv-00034) in the Eastern District of Texas. A single patent, generally related to temperature control in a portable computer, is asserted, with the defendants accused of infringement through the provision of laptops (e.g., the Fujitsu Lifebook P727 and Panasonic Toughbook CF-C1, respectively) incorporating certain temperature management systems. In early January, the remaining open case in PC Coma’s first litigation campaign, filed over a power management patent and targeting multifunction printers, was dismissed with prejudice.

PC Coma LLC, an affiliate of monetization firm IP Valuation Partners LLC (d/b/a IPVal), has added a second case to the litigation campaign that it began at the end of May by suing Xerox in the Eastern District of Texas. The new defendant is Oki Electric Industry (Oki Data Americas) (1:18-cv-00872), with the Delaware complaint again asserting a single patent, generally related to power management in computing devices, against the defendant’s multifunction printers (the “Okidata MB472w”). The accused model’s power management system—i.e., its “Power Save Mode” and “Sleep Mode”—is at issue. The day after PC Coma filed against Oki Data, it voluntarily dismissed the Xerox complaint.
