Dominion’s SPV Proceeds in Serial Fashion
New Patent Litigation
In an Eastern District of Texas complaint, Sovereign Peak Ventures, LLC (SPV), a Dominion Harbor Enterprises, LLC plaintiff, has sued OnePlus Technology (2:24-cv-00654) over wireless charging patents from its large portfolio of former Panasonic assets. The new case follows the June 2024 dismissal with prejudice, in light of a settlement, in a Western District of Texas suit that SPV filed in November 2023 against HMD Global, which itself followed the dismissal of a previous case, against HP Enterprise (HPE). SPV has been proceeding in roughly serial fashion—against LG Electronics, TCL, Hisense, Acer, ASUSTek, HP, TP-Link, HPE, and HMD Global—since this litigation campaign began, back in April 2020.

All four wireless communications patents asserted against HPE in the new Eastern District of Texas complaint have appeared previously in this campaign, which began back in April 2020 over a large portfolio of assets acquired from Panasonic. Infringement allegations target networking equipment, including access points offered through HPE subsidiary Aruba Networks.

Dominion’s Sovereign Peak Ventures Pummels LG Electronics with More Than Two Dozen Former Panasonic Patents
New Patent Litigation
Three of the four “peak ventures” of Texas monetization firm Dominion Harbor Enterprises, LLC, those with already active campaigns, have filed additional litigation in the first couple of weeks of April, with Sovereign Peak Ventures, LLC (SPV) hitting LG Electronics (LGE) (2:20-cv-00107, 2:20-cv-00108, 2:20-cv-00109) over patents from a large portfolio of former Panasonic assets. That litigation follows new suits from Monument Peak Ventures, LLC (MPV), hitting Hitachi over patents from a large portfolio of former Kodak assets, and Vista Peak Ventures LLC (VPV), hitting various defendants held by the Chinese Government (Nanjing, TPV) over patents from a large portfolio of former NEC assets. Dominion received each of these portfolios from Intellectual Ventures LLC (IV), with which the firm has had a deepening relationship. Dominion’s fourth “peak venture”, Liberty Peak Ventures, LLC (LPV), in receipt of a large portfolio of former American Express patents, has yet to assert any of those patents in litigation.

Dominion Harbor Divests Smaller Portfolios in Wake of Larger-Acquisition Assertion Efforts
Patent Market, Patent Watch
The last couple of years have seen Texas monetization firm Dominion Harbor Enterprises, LLC shift away from the acquisition of smaller families of patents from various sources toward the acquisition of large portfolios of assets—of former Kodak patents in March 2017, of former NEC patents in February 2018, and of former American Express patents in March 2018, all from Intellectual Ventures LLC (IV), as well as a large portfolio of assets acquired directly from Panasonic beginning in October 2018. Dominion (through subsidiaries of its litigation arm Monument Patent Holdings, LLC) has asserted patents from those large-portfolio acquisitions in litigation, and while it has continued litigating assets acquired prior to this strategy shift, that activity has dropped off. Assignment records recently made public by the USPTO suggest that, in addition, Dominion has begun to shed some of the smaller families that it had acquired under its earlier model.
