Yet More Former Orckit Patents Asserted Against Cisco

In an Eastern District of Texas complaint, Quicker Connections LLC accuses Cisco (2:24-cv-01074) of infringing six patents that originated with Orckit, but the plaintiff only follows up with formal accusations related to five of those six patents. Targeted is the provision of “high-speed networking platforms”, including the Cisco Network Convergence system; the Cisco ONS Multiservice Switching Platform and Cisco Catalyst Passive Optical Network; and related hardware and software products. Cisco has been sued multiple times, by various plaintiffs, over former patents from this same source.

Five Patent Holders, Same Apparent Backer

In early October, five entities recorded a security interest in the patents each respectively holds, naming as the secured party the same Delaware LLC, with a name suggestive of the involvement of third-party litigation funding. Two of the entities launched litigation later in October, one of them already had active litigation underway, the sole case of a fourth closed back in 2012, and the fifth one does not appear ever to have litigated a patent—yet.
