With New Gaming Complaint Against Niantic, 2020 Sees a Summer of Litigation for NantWorks

Roughly one week after suing Bank of America, NantWorks, LLC and its subsidiary Nant Holdings IP, LLC have accused Niantic (3:20-cv-06262) of patent infringement in a new Northern District of California complaint, while The Fox Chase Cancer Center Foundation and Institute of Cancer Research (collectively, FCCC) have removed a licensing dispute filed against NantKwest, Inc. (a “member of the NantWorks ecosystem of companies”) in state court to the Southern District of California (3:20-cv-01786). The suit against Bank of America involves mobile check deposits; the case against Niantic targets augmented reality (AR) mobile gaming apps, including the Pokemon Go and Harry Potter apps; and the licensing dispute with FCCC now also contests the inventorship of a cancer treatment patent.
