After hitting four automakers, The Phelan Group, LLC has sued State Farm (2:23-cv-00611) with two of the seven patents already in suit, the lot generally related to a system for authenticating a driver of a vehicle. This past March, the plaintiff sued KIA and Toyota (which cases are now closed), hitting Honda and Mercedes-Benz Group just three days before the State Farm complaint. In this latest Eastern District of Texas case, The Phelan Group targets features for authenticating drivers and monitoring vehicles within the State Farm Drive Safe & Save platform.

In its second pair of complaints, filed separately in the Eastern District of Texas against Honda (2:23-cv-00607) and Mercedes-Benz Group (2:23-cv-00607), The Phelan Group, LLC has upped the number of patents-in-suit by one. This past March, the plaintiff hit KIA and Toyota in the same district over six patents generally related to a system for authenticating a driver of a vehicle through the provision of automobiles that support certain advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). Both cases ended in late November; now, those six patents are back in suit, with a topper.

The Phelan Group, LLC has filed what appears to be its first litigation, accusing KIA (2:23-cv-00094) and Toyota (2:23-cv-00093) of infringing six patents generally related to a system for authenticating a driver of a vehicle through the provision of automobiles that support certain advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). At issue in both new Eastern District of Texas complaints are features for authenticating drivers and monitoring vehicle usage (e.g., as to KIA, via KIA Drive Wise and KIA Connect).
