Google and Others Sued in DDC Technology’s VR Headset Campaign

With a single suit filed in the Northern District of Texas, DDC Technology, LLC has added Alphabet (Google), Emerge Technologies, HMD Tech, Landsberg Orora, Pyrite VR, and Structural Graphics (3:22-cv-01263) to its litigation campaign over a portfolio of virtual reality (VR) viewer patents. The defendants are accused of infringement through the provision of VR headsets, including those that support Google Cardboard.

Second Suit Filed in Campaign over VR Patents Subject to a Prior Litigated License

DDC Technology, LLC has filed a second lawsuit over a portfolio of patents generally related to a virtual reality “viewer” for a mobile device, accusing Digital Products International (4:21-cv-00402) of infringement through the provision of its iLive Virtual Reality headsets. The plaintiff pleads that the original assignee of the patents, DODOcase VR (f/k/a DODOcase), retains a financial interest in them, the patents having been transferred during earlier litigation over an alleged breach of a license agreement—a breach that DodoCase VR contends imposed “extensive expenses to the point that [DodoCase VR] was compelled to sell its rights to the [patents] and the royalty payments under the [license agreement] to DDC”.
