OV Loop Hits MasterCard over Host Card Emulation
New Patent Litigation
OV Loop, Inc. has filed suit against MasterCard (7:23-cv-01773) in the Southern District of New York. The plaintiff alleges infringement of a single mobile payment authorization patent through the provision of the Mastercard Cloud-Based Payments (MCBP) and Mastercard Digital Enablement Service (MDES) specifications, as well as Host Card Emulation (HCE) mobile wallet systems that implement those specifications. OV Loop acquired the patent in conjunction with its June 2018 acquisition of SimplyTapp, an Austin-based company formed by the patent’s sole named inventor, Charles Douglas (“Doug”) Yeager, whom OV Loop characterizes in its complaint as having invented HCE.
