Individual Named Inventor Sues Panasonic over Geolocation Technology
Individual inventor Carl M. Burnett has filed suit against Panasonic (8:17-cv-00236), alleging infringement through the sale of camcorders that offer GPS location tagging using certain standard tagging formats. The patent asserted (7,107,286) generally relates to “media recorders” that process positional data (i.e. longitude, latitude, altitude) for their users. Burnett’s complaint details at length both the timeline by which his family of two patents (6,681,231) allegedly became standard essential and a purported set of licensing communications with Panasonic that preceded the complaint’s filing.
