Inventor-Controlled NPE Resumes Email Marketing Campaign, After Related Entity Loses Separate Patent Family to IBM
Inventor-controlled NPE Umbanet, Inc. has resumed its email marketing campaign with a single suit against Epsilon Data Management (2:16-cv-00682), its first filing since the NPE’s initial wave of litigation ended in May 2014. As in its previous lawsuits, Umbanet asserts two patents (7,076,730; 7,444,374) generally related to email composition and associated tools, where composed emails may contain more information than what is displayed by a receiving email client. Epsilon is accused of infringement through an email marketing system that allows the composition of emails for bulk marketing campaigns. Both of the patents list Umbanet president L. Michelle Baker as the sole inventor.
