Freescale Semiconductor and STMicroelectronics are the newest defendants in National Cheung Kung University’s (NCKU) ongoing campaign. The entity began filing litigation in July 2012, asserting a group of patents related to semiconductor fabrication. The recent suits assert a single patent, not used in NCKU’s previous litigation, that relates specifically to testing analog-to-digital converters (7,154,422). Microcontrollers manufactured by defendants are accused of infringing the asserted patent. NCKU has filed 17 suits since it began filing litigation, the majority of which are inactive. National Cheng Kung University filed suit against Maxim Integrated alleging that the defendant’s video compression products that support the ITU-T H.264 standard infringe a patent related to block-oriented motion compensation  (7,561,078).
