Sycamore IP Holdings Expands Assertion of Optical Networking Patent
Sycamore IP Holdings LLC has added a third wave to its sole litigation campaign, filing complaints against AT&T (2:16-cv-00588), CenturyLink (2:16-cv-00589), Level 3 Communications (2:16-cv-00590), and Verizon (2:16-cv-00591). One patent (6,952,405) from a portfolio of 40 originally issuing to failed optical networking company Sycamore Networks, Inc. is at issue in the campaign. The ‘405 patent generally relates to encoding data for Ethernet over optical transport, with the defendants’ optical networking products targeted by the NPE.

Failed OpCo’s Patents Turn Up in Sycamore IP Campaign
Sycamore IP Holdings LLC recently began a litigation campaign, filing a total of eight cases since the end of February 2015. Half of those suits were filed in early March, naming Ericsson, Menara Networks, PacketLight, Transmode Systems, Xena Networks, and Xtera. The entity’s first suits were against ABB, ADVA Optical Networking, Anritsu, and Hitachi, filed on February 20. The suits all assert a single patent that concerns encoding data for Ethernet over optical transport (6,952,405). Networking platforms made and/or sold by defendants are the accused products in the campaign. Andrew Spangler represents Sycamore IP in litigation.
