Acacia Sub Asserts Westerlund/Dowling VoIP Patent Against Microsoft and Skype
Acacia subsidiary Internet Communications Solutions (ICS) sued Skype along with its parent company Microsoft (2:14-cv-00189) for alleged infringement of a VoIP patent. The asserted patent generally relates to a smart card system providing portable telecommunication and computing services (8,625,584) and names Robert Westerlund and Eric Dowling as its inventors. It is a continuation of the inventors’ earlier patent related to similar technology (7,451,921).

Acacia Subsidiary Enters Into License and Settlement Agreement with magicJack VocalTec
March 23, 2012 – Acacia Research subsidiary, Internet Communications Solutions, filed an 8-K resolving a pending litigation against magicJack VocalTec. In July 2011, Internet Communications Solutions filed suit against magicJack VocalTec, YMax, and Tiger Jet Networks, alleging that the defendants’ VoIP products infringe a patent related to a portable VoIP telephony service.
