Last week, a Western District of Texas jury awarded PalTalk (f/k/a PeerStream) (PalTalk Holdings) $65.7M for the infringement of claims 1-5 of a single patent generally related to managing audio data distribution to allow for multiple users with different “equipment” to participate in an audio conference. In a July 2021 complaint, PalTalk targeted the provision of features for “transporting different audio types to different participants based upon their individual connection methods” within Cisco’s various WebEx audio conferencing platforms. The “plain and ordinary meaning” of the word “each”—disputed by the parties here—hangs over this result.

One year after its first litigation campaign concluded, PalTalk (f/k/a PeerStream) (PalTalk Holdings) has filed a second, suing Cisco (WebEx) (6:21-cv-00757) in the Western District of Texas over a single patent generally related to managing audio data distribution to allow for multiple users with different “equipment” to participate in an audio conference. Paltalk targets the provision of features for “transporting different audio types to different participants based upon their individual connection methods” within Cisco’s various WebEx audio conferencing platforms.
