First New Imperium Suit Since 2011 Targets Samsung Devices
New Patent Litigation, NPE
Imperium (IP) Holdings is asserting three patents in its newest suit that names Samsung as the defendant (6,271,884, 6,836,290, 7,092,029). The three asserted patents relate to digital screen lighting and only the ‘884 patent has been asserted in previous litigation; it was asserted in two separate cases against Apple, both filed in 2011. The last suit against Apple was dismissed in July 2013. Samsung's mobile phones, digital cameras, and tablets are accused of infringing the patent-in-suit. This is Imperium’s first new litigation since 2011 and only the second unique case filed by the entity. Imperium was also a defendant in two declaratory judgments filed by Kyocera in March and September 2012. The former case was dismissed for lack of standing in June 2012. The latter was dismissed in May 2013 by stipulation of both parties. 6/9, Eastern District of Texas, 4:14cv00371
