Inventor-Backed Innovaport Adds New Defendant in Product-Locating Tools Campaign

Inventor-controlled plaintiff Innovaport LLC (f/k/a PatentBank LLC) has sued Best Buy (3:23-cv-00016) over the provision of mobile apps and websites that support features for informing customers of the availability and location of products within a retail store. Four patents, each naming John T. Pienkos—an apparent “inventor, author, and practicing patent attorney in Milwaukee, Wisconsin”—as the sole inventor, are asserted in the new Western District of Wisconsin complaint. They generally relate to providing, through a mobile device, the location information of a product within a store.

Innovaport Sues Third Retailer over Product Location Tools

Inventor-controlled Innovaport LLC (f/k/a PatentBank LLC) has expanded its sole litigation campaign, suing Target (3:22-cv-00425) in the Western District of Wisconsin. The plaintiff asserts four patents generally related to providing, through a mobile device, the location information of a product within a store. Since launching this campaign in June 2021, Innovaport has sued three defendants, targeting the provision of mobile apps and websites that support features for informing customers of both the availability and location of products within certain retail stores.
