First Uber, Now Lyft, for Inventor-Controlled ENOVSYS

Having sued Uber in the Northern District of California last month, ENOVSYS LLC has now hit Lyft (5:23-cv-05157) there with the same three patents, generally related to tracking the location of a “portable remote unit”. Targeted is the use of location tracking services to allow users to select and see the location of nearby drivers within the Lyft ridesharing platform and its Lyft Customer and Lyft Driver apps. In both complaints. ENOVSYS pleads that its “location-based wireless technology has been licensed by Sprint and was the subject of settlement agreements with telecommunication providers Verizon and T-Mobile”.

ENOVSYS Targets Location-Based Services in Latest Campaign

Following the dismissal of its last active litigation in November 2022, ENOVSYS LLC has initiated a new litigation campaign with a suit against Uber (5:23-cv-04549) in the Northern District of California. The asserted patents generally relate to monitoring the location of a “portable remote unit” through a “network of communication units”, with Uber accused of infringement through the support of location tracking services in its various “ride, ride-sharing, carpooling, and delivery services”.

ENOVSYS Aims Well-Litigated Portfolio at Location-Based Services of Verizon Wireless

Years after an unfavorable jury verdict in a case filed against AT&T (AT&T Mobility) and even longer since its favorable jury verdict against Sprint Nextel (subsequently merging with T-Mobile, in 2020), ENOVSYS LLC has targeted the location-based services of a third carrier: Verizon (Verizon Wireless) (2:21-cv-00315). The inventor-controlled plaintiff asserts four patents from the same family, notice of which ENOVSYS pleads began in October 2001.
