Acacia Sub Asserts Former Hitachi Patents Against 15 Companies
Acacia subsidiary SOTA Semiconductor filed an infringement suit against Belkin, Dell, Hisense, HP, Konica Minolta, Lenovo, Marvell, NETGEAR, Samsung, Seagate Technology, and Western Digital Corporation. The complaint focuses on Marvell’s integrated circuit (IC) products that contain ARM(R) processors using the Thumb instruction set and those with NEON(TM) SIMD extensions, which SOTA says are incorporated in the other companies’ tablets, televisions, wireless routers, servers, printers, and storage drives. SOTA alleges the defendants are infringing two microprocessor patents: one relates to enhancements to microprocessor instruction sets and execution data paths (5,991,545); the other claims a microprocessor with both a digital signal processor (DSP) and a central processing unit (CPU), which also includes a combined instruction decoder and single memory space (6,643,713).
