Sentegra Heads Back Home, Filing New Suits Against ASUS and BLU Products in Colorado

Colorado-based Sentegra, LLC has switched venues in its mobile devices litigation campaign, adding a second case against ASUS (1:16-cv-00132) and a new case against BLU Products (1:16-cv-00158) in its home state. Prior suits in the campaign, including those against BlackBerry, Lenovo, LG Electronics (LGE), and Samsung, as well as the first case against ASUS, were all filed in the Southern District of New York. Sentegra’s new complaints both assert a patent that was originally issued to LGE (7,920,904). The ‘904 patent generally relates to a certain microphone setup on a mobile device. The NPE’s complaint against BLU Products also asserts a second patent (8,706,627) generally related to mobile devices capable of making secure transactions.

In the second half of November 2015, RPX saw 15 patent transfers to NPEs recorded with the USPTO. Several of those transactions involved patents that have been recently asserted in litigation against operating companies, including in the barrage of NPE cases that were filed on November 30, 2015, in anticipation of changes to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure.

Sentegra Asserts Two Patents, One Familiar, One Newly Acquired, Against Samsung

Sentegra, LLC has filed a fifth case in its year-long mobile devices campaign, this one against Samsung (1:15-cv-09266). The NPE’s past four cases have all asserted the 8,706,627 patent, which issued to inventor Jon Shore and generally relates to mobile devices capable of making secure transactions. The case against Samsung also asserts for the first time a patent that Sentegra just received (on November 13, 2015) from LG Electronics (LGE): 7,920,904. The ‘904 patent generally relates to a particular microphone setup on a mobile device. Sentegra’s complaint accuses Samsung’s smartphones of infringing both patents and Samsung’s tablets of also infringing the ‘627 patent.

Sentegra Mobile Device Campaign Continues to Grow

Sentegra, LLC’s sole campaign continues with a suit (1:15-cv-03768) asserting a single patent (8,706,627) against ASUS. The campaign began in October 2014 and now involves four suits against mobile device makers. Each suit asserts the ‘627 patent, which broadly relates to a wireless device capable of making secure transactions. Mobile phones and tablets made by ASUS and sold online are accused of infringing the patent-in-suit.

Sentegra, LLC, an operating company that appears to focus primarily on monetizing its intellectual property, filed its first suit of 2015 against LG Electronics (LGE) (1:15-cv-01535). The patent-in-suit was developed by Sentegra and concerns a wireless device capable of making secure transactions (8,706,627). LGE’s mobile devices are accused of infringing the asserted patent. According to USPTO records, this patent is the only to have issued to Sentegra. It also owns a published patent application related to providing targeted advertising.
