IP Edge: Bringing Patent Monetization to the People?

For years, RPX has reported on the intelligence that can be culled from public records about the approach to patent monetization by the large collection of patent plaintiffs linked to IP Edge LLC. That Texas monetization firm has never filed suit itself but has, through its associated LLCs, been the top filer by volume of NPE litigation, both for several years running and by an order of magnitude. The “Series of Extraordinary Events” currently underway—first before Delaware Chief Judge Colm F. Connolly, but now also the Federal Circuit—appears to have confirmed that body of reporting, based solely on public records, that the founders of IP Edge, through sister entity MAVEXAR LLC, have constructed a business model by which individuals with no prior, cognizable connection to patent monetization take ownership of patents, the assertion of which MAVEXAR manages—all for a small percentage of the proceeds paid back to those individuals.

IP Edge Triple Dips Against Corning, Double Dips Against Sensata, Sues Silicom for the First Time

Harmony Licensing LLC has pushed the number of defendants in its litigation over a single former Linex Technologies, Inc. patent past three dozen, this past week suing Corning (6:22-cv-06404) in the Western District of New York and Sensata Technologies (2:22-cv-01347) and Silicom (Silicom Connectivity Solutions) (2:22-cv-01346) in the Western District of Washington. Targeted throughout this IP Edge LLC campaign has been the support in various devices of certain features of the HSPA+ cellular networking standard.

IP Edge Spins Off a Fifth Campaign over Former Linex Technologies Portfolio
New Patent Litigation
Texas monetization firm IP Edge LLC, through plaintiff Harmony Licensing LLC, has kicked off another litigation campaign from the 30-patent portfolio that the NPE picked up from Linex Technologies, Inc. in September 2018. Harmony Licensing has accused 3SI Security Systems (1:20-cv-01318), Lindsay (1:20-cv-01319), and MVG (1:20-cv-01320) in the District of Delaware; CipherLab (2:20-cv-00320) in the Eastern District of Texas; Datalogic (2:20-cv-08918) in the Central District of California; and Schlumberger (2:20-cv-05115) in the Southern District of Ohio, of infringing a single former Linex patent through the provision of a wide variety of products (asset tracking devices, cellular edge gateways, ship-to-shore cellular networking systems, smartphones, PDAs, and oil wellsite data transmission systems, respectively). At issue is the support of certain features of the HSPA+ cellular networking standard.
