Rock Creek Ensnares Buffalo Switches
New Patent Litigation
Over a year since its last case ended, Rock Creek Networks, LLC has sued Melco Holdings (Buffalo Americas) (6:23-cv-00298) in the Western District of Texas. The same networking patent has been at issue throughout this campaign, which has targeted devices compliant with the IEEE 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet (EEE) standard. The accused products in this latest complaint are “network switches such as Multi-Port Gigabit Smart Switches, Multi-Port Gigabit Switches, Multi-Port Gigabit PoE Smart Switches, Multi-port Gigabit PoE Switches, 10GbE Switches, [and] Entry-Level Unmanaged 10GbE Network Switches”.

NPE’s West Texas Networking Campaign Sees New Cases, Multiple Dismissals

Rock Creek Networks, LLC has added cases against NVIDIA (6:21-cv-00675) and Senao Networks (6:21-cv-00673) to the campaign that it began in January of this year. The new suits come as litigation against four prior defendants has either ended or been stayed. The same patent has been at issue throughout, with infringement allegations focusing on networking devices compliant with the IEEE 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet (EEE) standard.

Campaign Targeting Devices Compliant with the IEEE 802.3az EEE Standard Hits Huawei

The new networking campaign of Rock Creek Networks, LLC has picked up another defendant, with Huawei (6:21-cv-00690) sued in the Western District of Texas where cases against prior defendants CASwell, D-Link, Fujitsu, Realtek Semiconductor, VIA Technologies, and Zyxel sit in early stages before District Judge Alan D. Albright. Again, infringement allegations target networking devices (here, LAN adaptors) that are compliant with the IEEE 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet (EEE) standard.

Rock Creek Networks Expands Campaign over Former NEC Patent

So far in March, Rock Creek Networks, LLC has sued Fujitsu (6:21-cv-00256) and VIA Technologies (6:21-cv-00231) in the Western District of Texas over the provision of networking devices (e.g., LAN adaptors and ethernet controllers, respectively) that are compliant with the IEEE 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet (EEE) standard. In each suit, the plaintiff asserts a single patent, originating with NEC, generally related to a LAN interface with a “link pulse detector” that can disconnect the interface’s LAN controller from the I/O bus when the controller is inactive.

Former NEC Patent at Center of New Networking Campaign

Recently formed Texas NPE Rock Creek Networks, LLC has kicked off its first litigation campaign, suing CASwell (6:21-cv-00082), D-Link (6:21-cv-00068), Realtek Semiconductor (6:21-cv-00081), and Zyxel (6:21-cv-00080) over the provision of networking switches, network adapters, or controllers that are compliant with the IEEE 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet (EEE) standard. The sole patent-in-suit is broadly directed to a local area network (LAN) interface.
