Delaware Plaintiff Tags Mobile Banking App in First Litigation

In a new Eastern District of Texas complaint, Viewlogic Wireless LLC has accused Comerica (Comerica Bank) (2:24-cv-00200) of infringing four patents broadly directed to recognizing and tagging objects in images and video on a mobile device. The patents belong to a larger portfolio once held by “IP Holdings”, other members of which are already in litigation, this Delaware plaintiff targeting the provision of mobile check deposit features (“Click&Capture Deposit”) within the Comerica Mobile Banking app.

Having Hit Apple in June, Smart Mobile Technologies Sues Samsung in July

A second suit has been filed in the campaign of Smart Mobile Technologies LLC (SMT) roughly three weeks after the plaintiff launched litigation, against Apple. The new defendant is Samsung (6:21-cv-00701), with infringement allegations hitting the provision of a various Galaxy-series devices (e.g., smartphones, smart watches, and/or tablets). Again at issue are wireless communications features that involve connecting to and switching between different types of networks (e.g., Download Booster, MIMO, Smart Network Switching, Wi-Fi calling, etc.).

West Texas Suit Targets “Dynamic Switching” Between Wi-Fi and Cell Networks

Smart Mobile Technologies LLC (SMT), an entity formed in Delaware nearly a year ago, has launched a wireless communications campaign, suing Apple (6:21-cv-00603) in the Western District of Texas for the alleged infringement of 13 patents. The plaintiff targets the provision of a wide variety of devices (Apple TVs, Apple Watches, iPads, iPhones, iPads, etc.) that facilitate “dynamically switching” between networks of different types, i.e., Wi-Fi and cellular networks. SMT alleges that Apple has had notice of at least some of the patents since 2015 when a patent advisory firm was “engaged to assist with the divestment of certain patents and patent applications owned by a prior owner of the patents”.
