Inventor-Controlled Plaintiff Tags T-Mobile Again

In a new Western District of Texas complaint, Cutting Edge Vision LLC has accused Deutsche Telekom (T-Mobile) (6:24-cv-00270) of infringing two patents generally related to automatically uploading designated photographs to a hosting service on a camera. Targeted is the provision or sale of “camera-enabled mobile devices and smartphones”, including certain REVVL- and Motorola-branded smartphones. This complaint is the second in the Cutting Edge Vision campaign to name T-Mobile as a defendant.

Duo of Speech Recognition Patent Assignments Bears Watching

Among patent assignments recently made public by the USPTO is the transfer of more than two dozen assets generally related to speech recognition and/or processing from Nuance Communications to a Delaware LLC. The transaction, dated January 1, 2021, followed by two and a half months the execution of an assignment of two US patents, also broadly directed to speech recognition, to the same LLC from another player in the space. This collection of similar assets suggests that additional patent cases may be on the verge of joining a slew of speech recognition campaigns spread out across nearly all stages of the litigation life cycle.

Cutting Edge Vision Lodges Third Suit in Campaign Targeting Intersection of Voice Recognition and Image Capture

Inventor-controlled Cutting Edge Vision LLC has sued HTC (2:20-cv-01618) in the Western District of Washington, doubling the number of patents in its sole litigation campaign to four. The asserted patents generally relate to image upload and photo capture using voice recognition, with such features provided on certain HTC smartphones targeted in the new complaint. Cutting Edge Vision has pleaded in each of its complaints that LG Electronics (LGE), Microsoft, Samsung, and Sony have taken licenses to its portfolio, with the two earlier cases, one filed in 2019 against each of BBK Electronics (OnePlus Technology) and BLU Products, ending in separate settlements.

In New Smartphone Camera Suit, Inventor-Controlled Entity Shifts from Licensor to Plaintiff

Inventor-controlled Cutting Edge Vision LLC has filed its first lawsuit, accusing BBK Electronics (OnePlus Technology) (1:19-cv-04753) of infringing three patents through the provision of certain smartphones, including the OnePlus 3, OnePlus 3T, OnePlus 5, OnePlus 5T, OnePlus 6, OnePlus 6T, and OnePlus 7 Pro. The patents, generally related to “smart cameras”, including the use of voice recognition and automatic upload features, are part of a 13-member family held by Cutting Edge Vision, a portfolio that the plaintiff alleges has been licensed to “four of the world’s leading camera and mobile device manufacturers”: LG Electronics, Microsoft, Samsung, and Sony.
