A method for achieving a reduction in the dose of a GLP-1 receptor agonist required for reducing and maintaining body weight and/or body fat in an overweight or obesity patient with or without diabetes, said method comprising administering the GLP-1 receptor agonist in combination with linagliptin to the patient, wherein said administration is sequential administration of the GLP-1 receptor agonist in an amount effective to reduce body weight and/or body fat followed by linagliptin in an amount effective to maintain the reduced body weight and/or body fat.
