1. A proximity sensor core for a proximity sensor for creating a magnetic field to sense a proximity of a target, the proximity sensor core comprising:

  • a sheet of high relative permeability material having a thickness that is less than a width and length of the sheet of material, and the proximity sensor core comprising;

    a head portion extending across a width of the sheet of material and having a first length;

    first and second leg portions extending a second length from a first edge of the head portion, each of the first and second leg portions extending across a portion of the width of the head portion; and

    first and second foot portions extending a third length from the respective first and second leg portions, the first and second foot portions having the same width as the respective leg portions, and the ends of the first and second foot portions being separated from each other by a gap,wherein the sheet of material comprises a first bend between each of the first and second foot portions and the respective first and second leg portions such that the first and second foot portions extend generally perpendicular to the respective first and second leg portions.
