1. A device comprising:
- a sensor configured to detect a concentration of an analyte selected from the group consisting of molecular oxygen, carbon dioxide, nitric oxides, dissolved analytes in plasma and tissue, and hydrogen ions;
a therapeutic portion configured to deliver at least one of a therapeutic agent, a biomarker, and a diagnostic agent to a tissue surface of a patient in response to a stimulus or stimuli selected from the group consisting of chemical, mechanical pressure, light and ultrasound;
a matrix compatible with said sensor and the therapeutic portion, at least a portion of said matrix is at least one of accessible and permeable to said analyte; and
a dressing comprising said matrix and said sensor and the therapeutic portion;
wherein said device emits a signal in response to the concentration of said analyte detected by said sensor by modulation of inelastic scattering of an electromagnetic field, including at least one of phosphorescence, fluorescence, and absorption.

Abstract
A system and method are provided for the design and assembly of a device including a sensor capable and a compatible matrix material incorporated into a dressing. The sensor is capable of detecting analytes such as molecular oxygen, carbon dioxide, nitric oxides, dissolved analytes in plasma, and hydrogen ions, and the matrix is at least partially permeable to the analyte. The device emits a detectable signal when the sensor is excited in the presence of the analyte.
